GYMKINI

A portmanteau (port-man-tow) is a word created by combining two other words. Usually, the spellings and meanings of two words are blended into a new one, like “brunch” (breakfast + lunch). Portmanteau words adopt the meanings of both words.

Pakaloha’s first portmanteau: GYMKINI

Pakaloha has always been known to make bikinis that are built for the barrel. With time, Pakaloha has added new styles to our “active wear” line. These styles include Hana shorts, Kula shorts, surf skirts, yoga pants (or surf pants), surf suits, rash guards, the OG Kahana top, the Waikiki top, the Paia top, and the most supportive (without underwire) Big Beach top.

When you walk into a Pakaloha store, you’ll notice the bikini bottoms are displayed in order from least coverage to most coverage (micro bikinis, thongs, cheeky, and fuller coverage options). The Hana shorts are considered the most coverage bikini bottom. Pakaloha recently started making longer shorts (to the knees) named the Kula shorts, in addition to the surf skirts. Pakaloha yoga pants/surf pants have been a popular product because we stress the fact our fabric is SPF 50.

The Hana shorts, Kula shorts, surf skirts, and yoga pants are fantastic for hiking, swimming, paddle boarding, yoga, gardening, and wearing to the gym hence the portmanteau “gymkini”.

The shorts, skirts, and yoga pants are thin, buttery soft, and breathable. Some of Pakaloha’s bikini specialists will even tell you they sleep in the Hana shorts and yoga pants because the fabric is so soft!

The surf skirts (especially the black color “night”) are perfect for business trips because they don’t take much room in the suitcase. They appear professional, go with every outfit, can be worn for the “night out” event, and then at your tennis match or morning walk.

Like our bottoms, we have a system for the tops when you’re shopping inside a Pakaloha store. The tops are displayed in order from triangles, to more active, to most support. Any top that has at least one criss cross in the back is going to take the pressure off your neck and feel more secure for activity (than your tanning triangle top) like our popular Puamana top and braided Lanikai top. A top with two or more criss crosses in the back is going to give you more support like our (sexy yet sporty) Paia top and (most supportive and sporty) Big Beach top. The “OG” Kahana top is one of the oldest styles Pakaloha designed. It is that classic “volleyball razor back” look. It is comfortable, easy to put on (no fussy straps or ties), and adjustable. The Kahana top is conveniently replacing the typical bra or sports bra for our customers. The Waikiki top is another easy to throw on (no ties) active top. The Waikiki top is NOT the most supportive top but it is one of the most comfortable tops to wear, especially to your next yoga class.

In addition to the “gymkini’s”, Pakaloha’s active wear line includes the long sleeve surf suits, perfect for surfing and diving. Pakaloha also makes rash guards (long and cropped) with fun thumb holes. The rash guards are fantastic for surfing and swimming, but also a great option for any activity in the sun. The long rash guards make a perfect-everyday-shirt for anyone with sensitive skin (to the sun) or has no desire to cake their body with sunscreen.

Pakaloha’s gymkini’s, yoga pants, surf skirts, surf suits, and rash guards are available in solid colors and prints. Pakaloha offers sizes XS through XXL. Make sure to hand wash your Pakaloha swim wear in cold water and hang dry. Do not put in the washing machine and definitely NOT the dryer. Customers have made their Pakaloha suits last 10 years because they took special care of their suits. Pakaloha suits are investments, not careless expenses.
